At Meijer, we are committed to reducing our energy use and recognize that our customers value the same philosophy. We currently offer E-85 Flex Fuel at participating locations. That’s 85 percent ethanol and only 15 percent unleaded gasoline — better for the environment and better for reducing dependency on foreign oil. Here are a few other clean energy initiatives:

As the United States auto industry moves toward an increasingly low carbon fleet of consumer cars and trucks, electric vehicles (EV) are set to play an important role in achieving those goals.

That’s why, since 2010, Meijer has been offering EV charging facilities on our corporate campus and at select stores, making Meijer part of Tesla’s national supercharging network…

LED light bulbs are extremely energy efficient and long lasting, which is why Meijer is slowly incorporating the energy-savings lighting measure into its stores. Three of the retailer’s stores and 41 of its gas station are already all-LED, and more are planned for the coming year.

One U.S. Department of Energy Study found that LED bulbs installed in 2012 saved around $675 million in energy costs. In fact, if every person nationwide replaced a conventional light bulb with an LED, the estimated energy savings could provide light for an estimated 2.5 million homes…
