Meijer partners with dozens of colleges, both public and private, across our six-state footprint for a variety of sporting events designed to support fans and athletes alike.
We are pleased to partner with the Big Ten conference, especially fan favorites like the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Ohio State University.
Along with that support, Meijer is a big part of tailgating activities when fans gather at these college campuses. We sponsor The Meijer Fan Fest at MSU before home football games and participate in the Ohio State Football FanFest with free food, giveaways and activities. This pre-game fun has become a tradition for families, and it offers one more place for them to stop and enjoy themselves on game days.
We’ve also worked with the Big Ten during the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give to help identify potential collegiate golfers to participate in our annual tournament. For example, sponsor exemptions have been awarded to players from U of M, MSU, OSU and, Purdue and Northwestern University. The 2019 sponsor exemptions were awarded to Allyson Geer-Park of MSU, Aneka Seumanutafa of OSU, and Stephanie Lau of Northwestern.
Our partnership with Marquette University on Marquette Madness is another way we highlight collegiate athletes. The annual event with Marquette Athletics showcases the Milwaukee college’s Golden Eagle men’s and women’s basketball teams, bringing together a big group of fans to tip off their respective seasons.
Meijer is also committed to making a positive impact on student-athlete health and well-being. In our partnership with Northern Michigan University, we sponsored the innovative Meijer Student-Athlete Fueling Station in NMU’s iconic Superior Dome. This inviting spot on the Upper Peninsula campus offers recovery snacks and drinks to Wildcat athletes free of charge. It’s a healthy way to speed up muscle repair after intense sports workouts. Meijer contributes gift cards valued at $15,000 annually to keep the fueling station stocked.
"This dedication represents Northern's growing partnership with Meijer,” said NMU President Fritz Erickson. “It started with the donation of two semi-tractor trailer trucks for our new CDL truck driving school last spring, was followed by the NMU Day to kick off the fall semester, and now this outstanding fueling station to help Wildcat student-athletes maintain peak nutrition.”
