Local School & Youth Sports
Meijer strives to be a good neighbor in the communities we serve. A big part of that support is through local athletics for students of all ages.
Meijer has been a presenting sponsor of Crosstown Showdown – the kickoff to high school football in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana – for more than 10 years. The Showdown schedule includes 44 teams and featured more than 22 games during the 2018 football season. It is the nation’s premier high school football showcase.
Our support for athletics includes the area’s smallest players, highlighted by partnerships with more than 400 youth sports teams. Our sponsorships are grassroots, supporting a wide range of youth programs and schools and through community efforts.
Meijer partnered with the Detroit Athletic League (PAL) on the opening of the Willie Horton Field of Dreams presented by Meijer, which allows Detroit-area children to play diamond sports, football, soccer and more.
Each year, the nonprofit’s sports program reaches more than 14,000 children. Our partnership helps to support those efforts.
“PAL is bigger than sports. It's about teaching life lessons,” said Cathy Cooper, Senior Director of Community Partnerships and Giving for Meijer.
