Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give

Meijer works diligently to engage the community, and the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give is yet another way we get involved. The best professional athletes in women’s golf call Blythefield Country Club in Grand Rapids, Mich. home for four days to compete in this tournament, but it has become so much more.

It’s an opportunity for the entire community to get involved and have fun while supporting a very important cause – feeding the hungry. Over the past 6 years, it has generated more than $5.2 million for our Simply Give food pantry partners across the Midwest. And, despite the rain, the 2019 tournament boasted record attendance with more than 56,000 visitors throughout the week.

“The Meijer LPGA Classic has made an incredible impact on our hungry neighbors, and we are excited to continue to come together with the community to make a difference,” Meijer LPGA Classic Executive Director Cathy Cooper said. “This tournament is such a special way for families to spend time together, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the community support.”

Thanks to its variety of family-friendly events held through tournament week, the Meijer LPGA Classic remains one of the premier events on the LPGA Tour and was named the Best Family Experience on the Tour in 2018 and touted as the Best Tournament for families and foodies in 2019 during the Gold Driver Awards

There is something for everyone in the family to enjoy during tournament week:

  • 5k Run & Walk presented by Kellogg’s is sanctioned by the USA Track & Field and is held at Rockford High School.
  • Discovery Land is an air-conditioned kids’ destination with toys, activities, LPGA player autograph sessions, Meijer Purple Cow ice cream and a first-of-its-kind hospitality area, called The Kimberly Clark Family Care Area, for lactation use and diaper changing needs.
  • The Grand Taste and the Grand Taste Garden make up the Grand Taste Experience, which is a one-of-a-kind event that’s considered the best food experience on tour. It’s a three-day food-tasting event held in massive on-course air-conditioned tents with dozens of local restaurants, breweries, Meijer vendors and products, and live music.
  • Volunteer opportunities drew in more than 1,020 volunteers for the sixth annual tournament, held June 10-16, 2019

The 2019 Meijer LPGA Classic concluded with a win by Canada’s Brooke Henderson, who was also the tournament’s 2017 champion.

“It’s really special. I’m so happy that both my mom and my dad can be out here to watch my sister and I win this. It’s always special when they’re here, especially on Father’s Day,” said Henderson following the tournament. “I think it’s so important and congratulations to Meijer for all the amazing work that they have done, and the amount of money that they’ve raised … I think it’s just incredible and I’m just happy to be a part of it.”

Upcoming tournament dates are June 8-14, 2020 and June 7-13, 2021. The tournaments will host a full field of 144 of the best women golfers for 72 holes of stroke play over four days of competition.
