With more than 245 stores across the Midwest, Meijer is in a prime position to sponsor a large variety of athletic programs, from big-name professional teams to K-12 programs at small-town schools. Our partnerships with sports teams is one more way we support the community and lend a hand to activities that bring fans together.
“Meijer customers are very passionate and loyal about the teams they support and so we're right there with them,” said Cathy Cooper, Senior Director of Community Partnerships and Giving for Meijer.
Our efforts to get behind communities where Meijer customers and team members live and work have given us the opportunity to partner with several incredible organizations, including the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Blackhawks and Milwaukee Brewers.
We’re also pleased to be the landmark sponsor of Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, a dynamic space that is home to both the Detroit Pistons basketball and Detroit Red Wings hockey teams. Additionally, the Willie Horton Field of Dreams presented by Meijer will allow Detroit-area children to play diamond sports, football and soccer, thanks to the Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL). It’s part of The Corner Ballpark presented by Adient, the Tiger Stadium redevelopment project.
Meijer also has longstanding relationships with the Big Ten conference, as well as other universities and colleges across our Midwest footprint.
Our support extends to minor league sports teams as well, including the Saginaw Spirit Hockey Club and the Normal Cornbelters baseball team.
In 2014, Meijer brought a premier event to West Michigan that has continued annually to generate awareness of and donations for hunger relief across the Midwest. The sixth annual Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give brought world-class golf back to Blythefield Country Club. The Midwest not only has a great history when it comes to women’s golf, but it also has a tradition of supporting the community: the 2019 tournament generated more than $1.1 million for our Simply Give program to help provide food to local food pantries. In total, the six tournaments generated $5.2 million for the program, thanks to the generosity and support of the community, our customers and our team members.
Meijer continues to deepen our roots throughout the Midwest and develop our community partnerships across the state. Supporting athletic programs is a great way to connect with our customers who love sports.
